This is the first installment of Calaxy's "Feature Presentation" series, in which we take a deep dive into one specific feature within the Calaxy toolsuite.
In the entertainment industry, there's always been strength in numbers. Whether it's Swifties forcing swift action to the tune of a freakin' congressional hearing or the BTS Army pretty much single handedly deciding trending topics on Twitter, the influence commandeered by the industry's most influential individual artists and brands is simply undeniable.
At Calaxy, we're helping Creators harness that power through our Fan Club feature. Every verified Creator on the Calaxy application has the option to sell Fan Club subscriptions at the price of their choosing. Once enabled, the feature allows Creators to select which pieces of content are surfaced to the general public on the application, versus reserved only for subscribers of their personal Fan Club.
The concept itself should feel familiar to users. Patreon, OnlyFans and other applications have implemented similar tools before. But on Calaxy, it's the execution of the feature, the fidelity of the product, and the customization options offered to the Creator that sets the tool apart from its peers.
This is the most straightforward use of the Fan Club tool. Fans pay the price of admission to gain additional access to and agency with their favorite Creators. As a Creator's Fan Club grows, they're able to consolidate their time and energy more effectively, thus freeing them up to offer greater engagement opportunities for their subscribers. Additionally, Fan Club communities often serve as audiences in and of themselves. An individual might not be seen as a Creator to the world at large, but maybe they're a micro influencer within a given Fan Club community.
In this way, Fan Clubs can often serve as a stepping stone for up-and-coming Creators looking to build a brand or hone a voice before breaking out on their own.
Calaxy is part digital marketplace, part social media platform. Like many of the social media platforms that came before us, we offer a polling feature that allows Creators the chance to get real, meaningful insight into the minds of their biggest, most passionate fans. The application features two types of Polls: free and premium (more on those in a later edition). In the case of either, Creators have the option to position their Polls behind their Fan Club paywall.
Thus, Creators could offer their most loyal fans more agency than the rest of Calaxy's users by publishing Polls exclusively for their Fan Clubs. They could A-B test or conduct market research behind the Fan Club paywall via Polls as well, essentially stratifying the insights they glean by only allowing their VIP fans to weigh in.
The only cap to the stakes at hand is the limits of our Creators' imaginations.
• What shoes should I wear?
• Which song should I play in my encore?
• Where should I sign in free agency? 👀
The possibilities are boundless.
"Like & subscribe below." "Retweet to enter." These are phrases that have entered our lexicon as Creators and brands have sought to incentivize their followers to engage with pieces of digital content. With Calaxy's Fan Club feature, the same is now possible, but access to those opportunities can be reserved for subscribers, thus packing additional value into the price of admission.
For instance, if a Creator like our very own Chief Design Officer Chadd Weston were to spin up a 1-of-1 Myro Collectible that he minted behind his Fan Club paywall, he could say that he'll airdrop it to the 100th person to comment and thus the pool of possible winners would be restricted to his Fan Club subscribers.
Individual pieces of content published behind a Fan Club paywall are still visible to followers who haven't subscribed...sort of. Let's say you follow Calaxy Co-Founder & Executive Chair Spencer Dinwiddie on Calaxy, but don't yet subscribe to his Fan Club (big mistake, but you do you). When Spencer publishes a Poll or a Post or mints a Collectible and marks it as exclusive content for his Fan Club subscribers, the post will still appear in your feed. But, the content itself will be obscured.
By subscribing, you unlock access to the content and get the full version of the Poll/Post/Collectible in your feed.
There always has been and always will be strength in numbers. And with the introduction of Calaxy Fan Clubs, we know our inaugural class of Creators will have the tools at their disposal to build their own army of followers and offer them more exclusive content and experiences than ever before.
